US immigration agents searched the home of Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar on Monday morning as part of a "criminal investigation". Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents "executed a judicially authorized search warrant" for the home in the Washington, DC, area, a US justice department spokesperson told the BBC. The search "is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation," the spokesperson said, but no further details were given. Representative Omar, an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, described the search as "an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement." The US Congress is currently out of session and it is unclear if Omar was at

submitted by beep to science 30 points | 18 comments https://doi.org/10.1080/0092623X.2026.2740624 cross-posted from: piefed.world/…/fear-responsibility-and-shame-in-y… This study examines how this generation of young heterosexual men—who have come of age in the “age of consent”—emotionally experience sex. We thematically analyzed 31 in-depth interviews with men aged 18 to 32 years. The most striking finding is how rarely these men described enjoying sex. Three themes emerged. First, anxiety and vigilance accompanied sexual encounters. Second, there was a moral concern about causing harm to a sexual partner. Third, shame arose not only from accusations by others, but also from

The UK's AI minister has warned it is "likely, if not inevitable" the country's cyber defences will at some point be breached. Speaking at a press conference, Kanishka Narayan pointed to an incident of a rogue OpenAI agent hacking an Australian government website in June. He said while no medical records are known to have been accessed in the attack, the incident should still "concern us". Narayan said the government plans to put advanced AI to work to combat the threat, as he set out how the government plans to prepare for any serious future incidents. The minister said the move would build on two existing pilots which have helped identify and fix over 1,000 vulnerabilities across

I've worked in tech now for 15 years, generally "high paying". I lived in SF for the first 4 of this years, between 2014-2018 and remember hearing all about how it was us tech workers who were responsible for high home prices. Fast forward 15 years and despite moving out of the city, and saving as much as I could, I still don't see how I could afford to live in SF. Honestly it boggles the mind a little bit. I'm motivated, worked supposedly in the right industry, and would love to live there, but it makes zero financial sense whatsoever. WHO can afford these 1.5 - 3.0 ---> 15+ million dollar homes? At times I wonder, have I just absolutely failed at working in tech? Should I have been

We’re not watering this down. This is a very substantial review. This is about fairness in our tax system. It’s about trying to better align the taxes that people pay when they earn income through trusts versus when they earn income from working, from providing their labour. These are changes that have been called for by experts for decades. If we go back to major reviews in the 1970s

Elon Musk has handed out at least $276 million to Republican groups since July, The New York Times reports, making him both the party’s top known donor and the biggest established midterm donor. $158 million of that money — one of the largest political donations in American history — has been funneled into the Senate Leadership Fund, the main super PAC that aims to secure and maintain a Republican Senate majority. He’s also donated over $76 million to America PAC, a super PAC Musk founded in 2024 that canvasses for hard-to-reach Republican voters. Smaller amounts have also been given to other conservative groups, including: The roughly $366 million that Musk has donated to federal

Speech as radio pulses, in the browser. Audio (microphone, eSpeak text-to-speech or a file) runs through a filter chain, every zero crossing of the result becomes one short RF pulse, and an SDR sends the pulse train. It is a port of a GNU Radio desktop app, and its chain reproduces that app’s output: of the 74 configurations of the app’s reference catalog, 56 come out bit for bit and the other 18 are identical until the speech has ended. Run it live in your browser, right now: https://mahapo.github.io/zcp-transmitter/ This appears to be an AI port of an AI project named after a conspiracy theory ?

The new Maia 300 chip will start rolling out to production AI workloads in 2027. Microsoft is announcing its third-generation Maia in-house AI chip today, designed to be the “primary AI inference system” for Microsoft’s products and services. e2e is an end-to-end testing framework for web and mobile apps. Describe a goal in natural language and an agent drives the app to reach it. Check the result with locators and assertions in the same test. An agent step that a later assertion verifies records its actions, and the next run replays them with no model calls until the app changes. Tests without agent steps need no model. Bring your own subscription, API key, or local model. init asks for an engine, web or mobile, and a model provider, then writes a config and an example test. The quickstart covers the rest. To see a finished setup in your stack, open examples/ : Vite, Next.js, Astro, Expo, SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose, Kotlin

Journalists, entrepreneurs, and even some public relations professionals will tell you that the PR process is broken (buy me a drink sometime, and I’ll give you my rant). But could AI actually make things better? Honeyjar , which will be attending this week’s TechCrunch Disrupt as part of the Startup Battlefield 200 , wants to use AI to make the expertise and judgment of the best PR pros available to everyone, including founders who have no idea where to start. The startup’s founders, CEO Michelle Masek and Chief Communications Officer Nadia Jamshidi, certainly fit the bill when it comes to PR expertise. They’ve both spent decades in the field, doing in-house communications and working at

So, I wanted to send out a poll for our yearly "zeitkapsl Punsch" event, where we invite people who helped zeitkapsl become what it is today. Early customers, former development team members, etc. Well... "... I opened up Doodle, trying to create a new poll for an event. I was immediately greeted with flashing popups stating I have to upgrade to pro now. I kept searching for where to delete my existing polls. It was not easy. I finally figured it out and was able to create the poll for my punsch event. But it left me wondering: how is everybody else tolerating this?" A hand-drawn poll: "How to name the office plant?" Options: go fern(), /dev/leaf, Monstera Monolith and Photosynthesis as a
