Cloudflare acquires the team. Deno gets one year or security updates and bug fixes and that’s it. A really sad ending for deno. Spent a lot of time trying to get my team at work to consider deno instead of nodejs. The writing’s been on the wall for a while but now it’s officially over. Also I guess this means bun won?

A spy implant in some Ledger crypto wallets may be the root of an $86 million supply chain attack. Reports have been mounting that users of the Ledger crypto wallet have seen their accounts drained , and suspicion is that it’s related to reseller CryptoBillis and a bit of spy hardware. Ledger has asked CryptoBillis to pause all sales of its wallets while it conducts an investigation. Photos and videos posted on X and Threads appear to show a small circuit board sandwiched under the screen. The implant allegedly intercepts anything displayed on the screen, including the seed passphrase shown during the initial setup. Using an embedded SIM card, the implant then sends that information back to

double quotation mark Right now, we are worried about strong winds, heavy rain and possible spinoff tornadoes in certain parts of the state. As we approach the weekend and any travel plans, make sure you have reliable information as conditions develop. We often hear in emergency management: Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst. That is the approach we need with this particular storm system. After all, we only want to see one Tide roll this weekend. Y’all be safe, heed local warnings and stay weather aware.” The total number of power outages across the US is slowly crawling down from its peak, now sitting at just over 800,000 based on poweroutage.com reports. Earlier, it had reached more

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Enrique Hernández bats during the fifth inning in Game 4 of baseball's National League Division Series against the Atlanta Braves, Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, in Atlanta. Colin Hubbard/AP hide caption This week, an ethical question, of all things, intruded into the baseball playoffs. Tuesday night, Dodgers versus Braves, in Atlanta. A young man in a Dodger jersey caught a foul ball in the stands. As so often happens these days, someone seated nearby captured it on video, and then felt compelled to instruct the man, "Give it to the kid! Give it to the kid!" And indeed there was a small boy, maybe preschool-aged, a few rows back in a Braves jersey. But the

Ok, well at least they put the comma in the right place. But I definitely read that wrong the first time anyway. “The rate at which the star is feeding from the brown dwarf suggests that this slow stellar cannibalism could carry on for hundreds of thousands, or even billions of years.” I wonder why they called it cannibalism A brown dwarf is an astronomical object that is larger than a planet but not massive enough to sustain hydrogen fusion like a star, typically having a mass between 13 and 80 times that of Jupiter. They are often referred to as “failed stars” because they can fuse deuterium but cannot maintain stable hydrogen fusion. Very interesting read on wikipedia:

George Williamson says ‘national resilience’ is key focus of ATI amid US and China’s runaway leadership in field The UK must not become dependent on foreign AI systems that can be switched off at short notice and must develop its own versions of the technology, according to the head of the Alan Turing Institute. The country needs a stronger domestic position in AI in response to the US and China’s runaway leadership in the field, with “national resilience” a key focus for ATI said George Williamson. The institute is the UK’s leading AI research body and is under new leadership after the government, its main source of funding, demanded a strategic shift. “As AI becomes more embedded in

Anthropic is is keeping its agents offline during testing until it can prevent ‘unintended model actions.’ After a recent spate of high-profile incidents in which AI agents escaped containment, Anthropic is cutting off internet access for all internal evaluations. In a report Friday, the company detailed “ unintended model actions ,” including submitting a false tip regarding an unsolved murder, that led to the decision. Although the impact of these behaviors was minimal and we had already turned off live internet access for some high-risk and cybersecurity evaluations, we have now decided to expand that to include all our internal evaluations until we have confirmed that our security and

Even as AI supercharges digital scamming and cybercrime, it’s also being recruited in the fight to protect potential victims. Governments around the world have consistently struggled to address the global crisis of online crime, grappling with the limitations of attempting to crack down on criminals beyond their borders . This has inspired alternative efforts, like using automation to attempt to go after scammers en masse—perhaps by spamming the spammers to squander their resources. For the last two years, the Australian company Apate, named after the Greek goddess of deception, has been building a system that diverts phone scammers onto calls with AI bots that are trained to keep
