Well, yeah no shit. Consent before engagement is consent understanding the potential consequences. Not giving consent prior to losing consciousness is typically called rape. It’s late and I’m tired so correct me if I’m wrong. Normally, sure. But these days, legalese can turn it into implied consent depending on court, judge, jury, accused and accuser. It’s circumstantial and there will be arguers for both cases. So it won’t be a clear win in every case.

A car burns at Place de La Republique during a protest against rising living costs in Paris on Saturday. Emma Da Silva/AP hide caption PARIS — A car and a newspaper kiosk were set on fire in Paris as police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse violent groups of protesters, while similar tensions erupted Saturday in other big cities on the fringes of nationwide demonstrations against rising living costs and in support of high school students' grievances. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez's office described "a growing number of violent incidents," including assaults on police officers, looting or attempted looting of shops and damage to public buildings. Authorities reported at least 272

DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 is a minor update to DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash , delivering substantial improvements across reasoning, coding, agentic tasks, and visual benchmarks. Alongside these gains, the model reduces task execution time and output length, enabling users to complete tasks faster and at lower cost and advancing the performance–cost Pareto frontier across multiple agent harnesses. † denotes the text-only subset of HLE. We use the Claude Code harness for Terminal-Bench 4.0 and the Mini-SWE-V2 harness for DeepSWE v1.1. This release does not include a Jinja-format chat template. The encoding folder contains a self-contained Python reference implementation ( encoding.py ) with test cases

Officers determine post by Sarah Helm, seen to endorse Palestine Action, does ‘not meet the criminal threshold’. Police in the United Kingdom have determined that a social media post by the wife of Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s national security adviser that appears to endorse Palestine Action , a group proscribed in the country as a “terrorist” organisation, does not merit a criminal investigation. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson on Saturday said that officers looked at Sarah Helm’s post and ruled that it “did not meet the criminal threshold. No further police action will be taken.” The police had said on Friday that Helm’s post was “being assessed to determine whether any further

Pope Leo XIV has been discharged from Rome's Gemelli Hospital, just four days after an operation to remove a cancerous growth from his lung. The 71-year-old walked unaided to his waiting car, stopping to speak to well-wishers. The Vatican said the Pope will give the traditional Angelus prayer and blessing to a crowd in St Peter's Square on Sunday, as he did last week when he surprised the world by announcing the surgery. On Friday, photographs were released of the Pope celebrating Mass and distributing communion in hospital for staff. A statement from his doctors said blood tests and a chest X-ray showed "steady improvement" following his operation.

Oh, Canada. The Great White North is the latest country to contemplate legislation that could essentially mandate backdoors and increase data retention in encrypted services. The proposed changes have prompted the Canadian anti-censorship company Psiphon VPN—which keeps millions of Iranians online during repressive internet shutdowns —to say it will leave the country if the bill passes. And Psiphon is not the only one. Encrypted messaging app Signal has said it would exit the Canadian market because the legislation would require unacceptable changes to its open source projects. Apple and Meta have criticized the bill, and DuckDuckGo and NordVPN say they would consider pulling their

Defence Minister David McGuinty says there are casualties but did not go into details A large fire near a Canadian military base in Alberta has killed and injured some people, the defence minister said, without confirming the number of casualties. The Canadian Armed Forces were working with local authorities to manage the fire and were looking into what caused it, David McGuinty said, describing the situation as "very, very active and delicate". Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney said on X that a "serious incident creating a major fire" had occurred, adding his "thoughts are with all the brave women and men affected". Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, where the fire broke out, is one of the

Research suggests listening more while talking less. Killing aimless meetings can help, too. Close to 1 billion meetings take place each day around the world. CEOs spend nearly three-quarters of their workdays in meetings. Planning for and spearheading meetings eats up the lion’s share of managers’ time. In much of the industrialized world, meetings are both the metronomes and menaces of people’s working lives. Given the enormous time spent in workplace meetings, do we know what they accomplish or how to make them as worthwhile as possible? For decades, the answer was… not really. Meetings weren’t a particularly accessible subject of study. But that has changed. Once a tiny niche area,

OpenAI, Meta, and Google want AI agents to do everything for you. But popular services on the web aren’t letting that happen. Autonomous agents are the hottest thing in AI. OpenAI, Meta, Google, Instinct, and others promise their agents can scour the internet on your behalf, doing anything from booking a dinner reservation and cleaning out your inbox to buying new shoes. But what happens when the rest of the internet won’t play nice? In recent weeks, users of services like Meta’s Muse, xAI’s Grok, OpenAI’s Dots, and Instinct have reported blocks preventing their AI agents from performing tasks across top websites. Yelp told TechCrunch that it only allows AI agents that pay for its data

The alleged Qilin hacker Vladimir K. was detained upon arrival in Frankfurt German police have detained a Russian man accused of being part of a cyber-crime gang which caused chaos at London hospitals and contributed to a patient's death. The hack of blood testing company Synnovis in 2024 led to disrupted pathology services across several London hospitals and was the first cyber attack in history to be directly linked to a death. The BBC can confirm German detectives are now including the incident in their investigation into the detained Russian and his associates. Separately, the BBC has learned that British police are examining whether its own inquiry may lead to an unlawful killing case

Instruction-level emulation of four ESP32 SoCs, across both of Espressif's CPU architectures . Each boots the real mask ROM , the real 2nd-stage bootloader and an unmodified application image — no patched firmware, no stubs in the way — with enough of the SoC modelled to run real projects end to end. No cloud, no accounts. MIT. The classic ESP32 also boots its ECO3 ROM on dual LX6 cores, with GPIO, UART and timers; --board ttgo-tdisplay adds the LilyGO TTGO T-Display's ST7789 and buttons. These full-listing and hardware counts describe earlier manual runs. CI runs the checked-in sampled decoder corpora and emulator golden outputs; it excludes the external full-listing tests. In the west the technology comes with at least some effort to provide security and a benign intent – not so from China There is much to fear from artificial intelligence developed in China and handed to businesses and governments in the west almost free of charge. Every month Chinese AI developers such as DeepSeek and Xiaomi dispatch the latest versions of their “open-weight” models that allow users to take the core software and use it without paying an expensive ongoing licence. In Britain, we love cheap Chinese kit, usually setting aside any concerns about how it was made and who by. The row over whether to allow Chinese electric cars unfettered access to British retail forecourts is a
