US immigration agents searched the home of Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar on Monday morning as part of a "criminal investigation". Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents "executed a judicially authorized search warrant" for the home in the Washington, DC, area, a US justice department spokesperson told the BBC. The search "is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation," the spokesperson said, but no further details were given. Representative Omar, an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, described the search as "an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement." The US Congress is currently out of session and it is unclear if Omar was at

Meta says the models compete with the industry’s best and will soon power its Muse agent. Meta is making up for lost time in the AI race. After launching Muse Spark , the first model from its revamped Superintelligence Labs division, and buzzy AI agent Muse , it’s now launching two new models it claims can go toe-to-toe with the industry’s best. The company says its new models can rival leading models from OpenAI and Anthropic, including GPT-6 Astra, Claude Opus 5.5, and Claude Fable 5.1, pointing to results from internal testing on several industry benchmarks. It’s unclear how they stack up against Google’s Gemini 4 Argon , whose capabilities are still coming into focus. The launches are

Elon Musk has handed out at least $276 million to Republican groups since July, The New York Times reports, making him both the party’s top known donor and the biggest established midterm donor. $158 million of that money — one of the largest political donations in American history — has been funneled into the Senate Leadership Fund, the main super PAC that aims to secure and maintain a Republican Senate majority. He’s also donated over $76 million to America PAC, a super PAC Musk founded in 2024 that canvasses for hard-to-reach Republican voters. Smaller amounts have also been given to other conservative groups, including: The roughly $366 million that Musk has donated to federal

A climate protester has been restrained by NSW MPs after he climbed over a barrier to interrupt question time to protest against the approval of the Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) coalmine extension by the state’s Independent Planning Commission last month. Earlier this afternoon, question time was interrupted for several minutes by the protest, during which eight activists from environmental advocacy group Rising Tide threw pages of government and academic climate reports into the chamber, including the Net Zero Commission’s report on coalmining emissions, which said mine expansions are against the state’s legislated emissions reduction targets. In the parliamentary livestream, MPs

Watch: Footage from inside Riyadh's airport shows the moment the strike hit on Saturday Saudi Arabia's energy minister has vowed a "serious" response to the deadly attacks on the kingdom's airports and oil and gas facilities by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi movement. "The events of recent weeks are serious. Our response must be equally serious," Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman told the WPC Energy Congress in Riyadh. On Sunday, a Pakistani man was killed in an attack on a terminal at the capital's King Khalid International Airport, Saudi authorities said. It came a day after a Houthi missile hit another terminal, killing 13 people and forcing its closure. The Houthis said they launched the attacks

Shares in dating app company Bumble soared by almost 50% on Monday after a report that it is in advanced talks to be bought for around $1bn (£757m). Technology holding company Ithaca could announce a deal to buy the Texas-based firm as early as this week, according to the Wall Street Journal. The jump in Bumble's shares pushed its stock market valuation to over $580m but that is still far below a peak of more than $14bn it reached after listing on the Nasdaq in 2021 . Bumble is one of the world's most downloaded dating apps, operating in a crowded market where growth has slowed. The BBC has contacted Bumble and Ithaca for comment. Bumble was launched in 2014 by Whitney Wolfe Herd, who was

Blokkily is an experimental pattern-based DAW. You can edit the same pattern in a tracker, piano roll or step grid, then arrange patterns across multiple tracks. It supports CLAP and VST3 plugins, SoundFont instruments and built-in samplers. CLAP support is required in every build. Watch a short video (with sound) of an agent building a funky chiptune in Blokkily over MCP , using the YANES and FUZZBOI CLAP synths. The screenshot comes from the bdd_session_everything verification session. It shows the arrangement, pattern editors, plugin browser, mixer and playable keyboard, with the composition assistant's prompt bar above the editors. As important as some of the messages in The Social Reckoning are, the movie has been drastically underperforming at the box office. Per Variety , Aaron’s Sorkin’s follow up to The Social Network only grossed a measly $5.5 million this past weekend against a budget that’s somewhere within the $30–42 million range. That would make it a certifiable flop that’s costing Columbia Pictures (and Sony) quite a bit of money — especially when you compare it to The Social Network ’s $22 million opening. This isn’t entirely surprising given how middling reviews for the film have been. It’s currently got a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has widely been trashed on social media. All of this might be

I think I’ll eschew any essay that attempts to define such a vague and old word as “tool” to make a point, as it seems likely it will all be pointless semantic bollocks rather than anything useful. I think I got over this kind of essay in first year of university. The fact that business people use language and words to diffuse bullshit does not mean that words have not a meanino. In contrary, language is important, and we should wrestle to express thoughts clearly. Rich Hickey is much better at that than the average person, e.g. see his youtube talk “Spec-ulation” on versioning and compatibility, or his thoughts on identity and state in programming . First order of business - is ‘tool’

submitted by beep to science 30 points | 18 comments https://doi.org/10.1080/0092623X.2026.2740624 cross-posted from: piefed.world/…/fear-responsibility-and-shame-in-y… This study examines how this generation of young heterosexual men—who have come of age in the “age of consent”—emotionally experience sex. We thematically analyzed 31 in-depth interviews with men aged 18 to 32 years. The most striking finding is how rarely these men described enjoying sex. Three themes emerged. First, anxiety and vigilance accompanied sexual encounters. Second, there was a moral concern about causing harm to a sexual partner. Third, shame arose not only from accusations by others, but also from

The UK's AI minister has warned it is "likely, if not inevitable" the country's cyber defences will at some point be breached. Speaking at a press conference, Kanishka Narayan pointed to an incident of a rogue OpenAI agent hacking an Australian government website in June. He said while no medical records are known to have been accessed in the attack, the incident should still "concern us". Narayan said the government plans to put advanced AI to work to combat the threat, as he set out how the government plans to prepare for any serious future incidents. The minister said the move would build on two existing pilots which have helped identify and fix over 1,000 vulnerabilities across

Journalists, entrepreneurs, and even some public relations professionals will tell you that the PR process is broken (buy me a drink sometime, and I’ll give you my rant). But could AI actually make things better? Honeyjar , which will be attending this week’s TechCrunch Disrupt as part of the Startup Battlefield 200 , wants to use AI to make the expertise and judgment of the best PR pros available to everyone, including founders who have no idea where to start. The startup’s founders, CEO Michelle Masek and Chief Communications Officer Nadia Jamshidi, certainly fit the bill when it comes to PR expertise. They’ve both spent decades in the field, doing in-house communications and working at

Meta’s Superintelligence Lab released a pair of new state-of-the-art models on Monday, Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, representing the company’s first attempt at a frontier model. Where Muse Spark aimed to be a lightweight model that could perform at low latency, the Wonder models are larger and said to be more capable, with higher benchmark scores and better results on complex tasks like coding. According to Meta’s testing (presented in the model card ), Wonder and Wonder Full achieve comparable benchmark scores to Fable 5.1 and GPT-6 Astra. “Together, they mark the next step on our scaling ladder and a major leap toward personal superintelligence,” Meta’s blog post about the models
