I use Claude/codex subscription for most coding tasks, but I experiment a lot with models I can run locally via ollama, and also been building my own local classifier models which run and train on CPU (they can classify text, but also play doom): https://github.com/nicobrenner/jeffy reply bravetraveler 9 hours ago | prev | next [–] Open models exclusively on hardware I own... despite my employer both demanding 'the frontier' and providing unlimited spend/quota. Whether it’s a super-glowy serum or a cult gardening tool, here are our writers’ favourite buys from the past year The Filter is turning two! To celebrate, we asked our contributors for their favourite products from the past year, and rounded up the team’s picks too. One of the best tools I’ve tested this year is Revamp’s Straight & Go cordless for my review of the best hot brushes . It’s compact, so easily fits into hand luggage, a work backpack or even a decent-size handbag. It’s my hot brush of choice when I’m away from home (and at home: it’s

For years, we’ve been working to make building server software simpler. We questioned how modules could be distributed, what security guarantees a JavaScript runtime could provide, what belonged in a complete toolchain, and how easily an application could be distributed as a standalone executable. Compatibility with Node.js became an important part of that work too: our users wanted the Deno improvements while continuing to plug into the existing JS ecosystem. Today we’re announcing that the entire Deno team is joining Cloudflare to take that work further. Our ambition has always extended beyond the runtime. I wrote about this in my JavaScript Containers blog post: compute, storage, and

Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores was the candidate for left-wing Ahora Nación A man named Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores has secured a narrow victory in Peru's local elections, exit polls show. The candidate for the centre-left Ahora Nación party was elected mayor of Queropalca, a remote district in the Peruvian Andes. Some 229 residents voted for the 45-year-old, putting him ahead of the second-place candidate from right-wing Renovación Popular Perú by just 25 votes. Despite being elected to represent fewer than 1,000 people, his forenames being those of two notorious fascist dictators has drawn outsized international attention to the small corner of the country.

Watch: The competition's former winner and runners up. Nikon disqualified the winning video (shown left). The winner of a prestigious scientific photography competition has been disqualified following concerns raised by other scientists that it was fake. Nikon said the use of generative AI in the composition of the video broke the rules of its Small World In Motion contest, which accepts photos and video taken using powerful microscopes. The firm said the video "did not comply with the competition rules regarding generative AI", but added it was not a judgement of the entrant's professional reputation or scientific contributions. It said it would now look at the rules and procedures of the

A ‘super’ new euphemism probably isn’t enough to make Americans forget their concerns about AI. President Donald Trump has a knack for turning words against his enemies. His first successful presidential run was built on monikers like “Little Marco” and “Crooked Hillary”; he changed “fake news” from a phrase describing scammy media outlets to a derogatory term for the press at large. A longtime AI booster, Trump has gone into pro-robot overdrive since an industry conversation over “pacing” frontier development last month. His current position is that AI safety risks are overblown and US companies need to speed up development, including by building more data centers, which he insists
