A contractor fell into a reactor cavity and a bundle of fuel rods almost fell over. US regulators have issued a warning to a nuclear project critical to Donald Trump’s efforts to revive the industry, after a contractor fell into a reactor cavity and a bundle of fuel rods nearly tipped over during refueling. The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission told Holtec International, a company racing to reopen a shuttered reactor at the Palisades nuclear power plant in Michigan, to address a “chilled work environment” that has made staff hesitant to raise safety concerns without fear of retaliation. The warning has prompted concerns among critics that financial and political pressures to revitalize

Hey HN, Loudwalk ( https://loudwalk.com/?from=hn ) is an app I built for myself to review my Anki flashcards out loud on a walk, and am excited to share today. Anki has changed my life and is probably the best habit I've managed to stick with. Apart from helping at my tech day-job and remembering random things I find interesting (relatives' birthdays, quotes, poetry), it allowed me to become conversational in Russian in 2 years and complete the first year of a French university degree in Art History - all while working full-time as CTO and co-founder at my company. I have an average memory at best, and it is crazy what Anki unlocks with consistency. Recently I've been exploring how

Recent efforts to throttle Ukraine's access to satellite systems have created a blame game of sorts among Trump administration officials and their allies, who have offered mixed messages about what led to the sudden restrictions on Kyiv's ability to intercept Russian strikes. The limitations placed on Starshield — SpaceX's military-grade version of the Starlink satellite internet service and the backbone of Ukraine's drone operations and communication — last week alarmed the country's military and government officials, with commanders reporting lost drones and disrupted missions. After days of handwringing, President Donald Trump asserted Thursday that the service is running again at full

Local Wikipedia is Wikipedia, but only for things a half hour walk from you. If there are fewer than 25 things close to you, it takes the closest 25 things within about 6 miles. If there are more than 500 things only the closest 500 will be included. Your location stays in this browser: links you share don't include it.

According to the new terms, sharing your data for better AI recommendations also means opening it up for more personalized ads. That means anyone who has connected their Drive, Gmail, or Google Photos to AI Mode and other Search tools via Google’s Personal Intelligence feature — allowing those tools to provide better responses or recommendations by knowing more about you — may now see ads targeted on the basis of that content. Advertisers don’t get access to your Drive, Gmail, and Photos information or personally identifying details such as your name or email address, and Google won’t show you ads based on sensitive categories like race, sexual orientation, religion, or health. “You may
